Who We Are: CKY from West Chester, Pennsylvania

· The Band

We're CKY, a rock band from West Chester, Pennsylvania. Here's where we come from, what our name means and what we sound like, so you know the story behind every design in our store.

Where did CKY start?

In high school. Deron Miller and Jess Margera met in 1992 and made music together as Foreign Objects before CKY existed.

In early 1998 Deron Miller, Chad I Ginsburg and Jess Margera formed CKY in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Our first album, Volume 1, came out the next year.

What does CKY stand for?

Camp Kill Yourself. That was our original name, and Volume 1 was first released under it in 1999. The three letters stuck, and CKY is the name on everything we've done since, including the logo on our merch.

What do we sound like?

Heavy, but with a hook. Our music gets filed under alternative metal, stoner rock and alternative rock, and you'll also see post-grunge and hard rock on the list. Big, thick riffs, played loud.

Who's in the band today?

Jess Margera has been on drums since 1998. Chad I Ginsburg has played lead guitar since 1998 and took over lead vocals in 2015. Deron Miller left in late 2011.

Bass has passed through a few hands: Matt Deis played with us from 2005 to 2010 and again from 2015 to 2019, and Chris Weyh toured with us from 2019 to 2023.

Where do we go from here?

Into the albums. Five studio records so far, from Volume 1 to The Phoenix. Read about them in the albums behind our designs.
